How to Take Care of The Liver

How do we take care of the liver?

By understanding how it works.

The liver clears toxins in three phases: breakdown, conjugation, and elimination. Let me show you.

Phase 1: Breakdown

This is where the liver neutralises pollutants that enter the body from everything you drink, eat, breathe, and touch. That can be pesticides, alcohol, refined sugar, chemicals in cosmetics, or polluted air.

During the breakdown phase, the liver needs antioxidants, which play a crucial role in neutralising toxins.

  • Yellow and green vegetables contain beta-carotene, the most potent antioxidant.

  • Seeds, nuts, and legumes contain Vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant.

  • St. Mary’s thistle or Milk Thistle is 10x stronger than Vitamin E.

  • Carrots and cabbage contain glutathione, which supports the detox of heavy metals and protects liver cells.

Phase 2: Conjugation

During this phase, the liver converts fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble ones, which are then safely eliminated from the body. A key component in this process is amino acids.

  • Legumes (beans, lentils, pulses), garlic, and onion contain a good amount of amino acids.

  • Brassica family vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, and cauliflower, stimulate enzymes that help neutralize harmful estrogens.

  • Turmeric encourages the safe breakdown of estrogens.

  • St. Mary’s thistle or Milk Thistle protects the liver.

Phase 3: Elimination

This is where the liver eliminates water-soluble toxins through the bowels, urine, or skin. To do this well, the liver relies on regular bowel movements; otherwise, the body reabsorbs toxins.

  • Mum created Colon Health tea, a blend of potent herbs that regulate bowel movements and system-wide detox.

  • Castor Oil compresses help the body move out waste more easily and loosen anything causing pressure around the liver and gallbladder.

  • You can do Mum’s 5-day liver cleanse. The liver is constantly working to cleanse itself, but it doesn’t mind a bit of extra help now and then.

If you're interested in doing a liver cleanse, Mum shares everything you need to know in her book, Self Heal by Design. It covers both the cleanse and natural remedies that help heal your liver. It also features a chapter on Conquering Cancer, which many find invaluable. Shop here.
