The Story Behind the Starter

30+ years ago, Barbara O’Neill received a jar of sourdough culture from a German woman living in Australia. That culture had already been passed across multiple generations in her family.

Barbara continued to feed and nurture the starter while teaching her children (myself included!) the art of sourdough baking. This starter is what I use for all my homemade breads, from raisin loaves and cinnamon scrolls to hearty sourdoughs and soft buns!
